Day 5… Auntie Bonkers.
Day 5 of Lockdown… this poem came from thinking about the effect the Corona virus will have on people’s mental health.
Auntie Bonkers.
My niece calls me Auntie Bonkers
’cause she says that I’m totally mad.
My nephews agree
Her viewpoint they see…
Y’see… I’m exactly like their dad!
I loved making small talk with strangers
And to have a good natter with mates;
Or go to the gym,
Eat out on a whim
And my diary was stuffed full of dates!
But now we’ve hit week two of ‘Lockdown’
And there’s ‘diddlysquat’ left to do
No squash games to play
Or trips far away
Until we get rid of this ‘flu’.
And so I think I have the answer,
No need to bang your head on the wall…
A hobby or two,
As something to do
Until into bed we can fall…
Play board games or do jigsaw puzzles
Make models or juggle with balls
Knit wonky squares
Collect navel hairs
Or paint graffiti all over your walls!
You could iron while singing a love song
Make matchstick models of ships
Do gym with the dog
Gargle loudly with grog
Or glue collage from toilet roll strips.
We need to get out in the fresh air
Or run round the block in the rain;
Swim in the sea
Or cycle maybe
It’ll help to declutter your brain!

I’ve made light here of the whole mental health issue. Please make time to give someone you think might be struggling a call…and while keeping your 2 meter distance…you can still smile and say hello!
