Day 176…The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
Maybe I’m being naive but reading about the government’s boost to the World Health Organisation’s funding felt like quite a positive move. I liked the fact that it almost summarised the different outcomes of the pandemic since March…hence this poem about the good, the bad and the ugly!
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
Sifting through the news of late has driven me quite mad,
Endless dismal headlines can’t fail to make you sad.
Confusing Lockdown rules leave some failing to cope
But BJ’s last announcement offers, maybe, a glimmer of hope.
He’s offered a massive funding boost to the W-H-O,
To stop another pandemic from finding fuel to grow.
Pointing the finger of blame is not his master plan
But to stress the good, bad, ugly, since when Covid began.
Go for unity, fight together to beat our common foe
Opening our arms to heal divisions and end our woes;
Offer vaccines and aid to help the poorer nations,
Drive for transparency in Wuhan’s research stations.
Blame game…the international community in tatters
After nine months fighting Covid, nothing else matters.
Dreadful treatment of Uighur Muslims by China,
… loss of human rights and freedom for the media.
United States and China in a rift that needs to end
Global commitment…future pandemics to prevent.
Lose this battle and the future’s pretty bleak
Yes to collective action… that’s our winning streak.
